US Condemns Police Violence Against LGBT Zimbabweans

By Staff on from advocate.com

For the first time in U.S. history, the State Department is publicly admonishing Zimbabwe for its treatment of LGBT individuals. The announcement came on the heels of this month's arrest in Zimbabwe of 44 gays and lesbians at a pro-gay rights conference party, where they were beaten by "visibly drunk" police men. The State Department joins the U.S. Embassy, Amnesty International and the United Nations in its urging of LGBT equality in the African nation.
