Ukraine Backs Off Gay-Gag Law (For Now)
Close call: In a presumed effort to protect their European Union candidacy, Ukraine has tabled a law that would make it illegal to discuss homosexuality in any capacity when children are present. Similar to Russia's anti-gay propaganda law, which was passed earlier this year for St. Petersburg, the Balkan country's gag law would lead to fines and up to five years' jail time. LGBT activists are applauding the decision, but are weary that the law may be re-introduced this September.
