Eighteen-year-old Connor Ferguson, a male-to-female transgender high school student, was shocked when her name was announced as prom queen of Trenton High School in Ontario, Canada. Ferguson, who had been living as transgender for four years, said that she was lucky to live in such a welcoming environment: “It took some time for quite a few people, but the school and staff definitely helped with that, and my group of friends was endlessly supportive. I think people accept you a lot more when you stick up for yourself and have enough confidence to be yourself.”
