Immigrant files proposed class action suit over U.S. gay marriage ban

By Staff on from reuters.com

In the first lawsuit of its kind, Filipino Jane DeLeon, her 25-year-old son and her U.S. partner Irma Rodriguez have filed suit against the government for denying an immigration visa for DeLeon based on the 1996 DOMA law. DeLeon and Rodgriguez, who have been married for 20 years, have raised their son since they moved to America when he was just 12 years old. The lawsuit is similar to a recent DOMA case in Massachusetts, but with one major difference: it's a class-action suit.
