Famed Lesbian Mexican Singer Chevala Vargas Passes Away

Chavela Vargas, the Mexican lesbian singer who is known for crossing gender boundaries in both music and style, has died at the age of 93 of heart complications. The gun-toting, cigar-smoking and heavy-drinking singer, who did not come out until the age of 81 (in her autobiography, titled "If You Want To Know About My Past"), also made an appearance in the film "Frida," and was a personal friend of Frida Kahlo.
