Archbishop likens gay and lesbian relationships to “lifelong friendship”

Vincent Nichols, head of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales, called gay relationships "profound friendships" this week. Nichols was responding to Britain's proposed gay marriage law, which he opposes. Nichols stated that "I would want them to be respected, but I would want them to have a vision in themselves that what they are called to is not marriage but a very profound and lifelong friendship."
